Berry Smoothie

I shop at Costco on a regular basis.  One thing I try to accomplish there is buying items that I can make snacks and small meals with.  I rarely buy anything already prepared or in a box.  Why?  Well for one, foods already prepared are more expensive.  Two, if you want a shelf stable food item, you have to add preservatives.  No thank you. Three, I want to control added sugars and added salt.

Costco sells a HUGE bag of frozen berries: raspberries, blueberries and blackberries. Costco also sells Kirkland brand Greek yogurt.  You get two tubs of yogurt for what I would pay for one in a regular grocery store. If it were up to my kids, we would have smoothies every morning for breakfast.  Here’s a simple berry smoothie that my kids and myself enjoy!

Berry Smoothie:

1 cup frozen mixed berries
1/2 banana
2/3 cup Greek yogurt
1/4 cup milk (almond, cow, soy, coconut)
1 tsp flax seed
1 tsp chia seed
1 handful spinach (optional)IMG_3510
